I just installed a 15 ton unit and after unwrapping the unit I observed a lot of oil on the bottom of condenser. I had a feeling that is leaking. I tested the pressure and one circuit had only 5psi. The sponges that hold the unit under condenser were soaked in oil. I charged with nitrogen to 300psi. Checked for leaks, but found none. My supplier says that sometimes the factory might forget to charge the unit (hard to believe). I told them I need it off the roof and would like a replacement asap..Well, they say it's not going to happen, it's on the roof and it's mine to deal with.
Did you guys see this kind of problem in the field? Do they oil the sponges under the condenser coil at the manufacturer?
