Installing a receptacle inside a cabinet

Hello, we are remodeling our kitchen and will be installing a stove top in an existing cabinet. The stove top requires both a natural gas input and an electrical receptacle. I would like to know the proper way to install a receptacle inside this cabinet. The little bit of searching I've done indicates that the receptacle box should be flush with the back wall of the cabinet. The problem with that approach is that this cabinet does not have a regular wall behind it. Instead it has drywall affixed to the cabinet backs, thus there isn't enough depth in the "wall" to hold a box. Can I mount a box on the inside back wall of the cabinet?
