Thanks to TimeBuilder, I learned the term 'Objectionable Current'. And, quite frankly, I love that term.
Although I knew it was not proper to use a ground as a neutral, I did not know the particular code violation. Fast forward to today. Found a unit with multiple problems. One of which is that there is no neutral; I mean, the neutral wire is there, it's just not a neutral.
Sent off an email with a bunch of contacts so that there was no way we could be held liable for a death in case some hack followed behind us tying a leg to ground to get things to 'work'.
