TXV Valve Removed by technician, A week later our AC died

OK, so we had our local HVAC company come out for a check-up. While we always have bad airflow due to the way it was originally installed, the house has always been cool. The technician checked it all out and said we were good, but had did take me outside to show that our superheat was a bit (High?) and the other was a bit (low?).

Regardless of what it was, he said that while both numbers were just outside the normal operating range and we would need to keep an eye on it, he also mentioned that he wanted to check the TXV Valve. He removed the sensor and the numbers came closer into the desired range, thought still just outside.

He left saying that we should get the valve replaced, but that he would leave the sensor detached, saying that we could get a year before we had to do anything...Though it would be necessary to replace.

Now a week later, our AC compressor won't turn on outside...Seems fried.

So...Our AC was fine before they came out (It's 8 years old, so we're nearing a new unit in the next few years since we live in FL where it's always running). But it feels to me like a checkup ended up leading to AC failure a week later. I'm not an expert, but the timing just seems suspicious. Before I call them in the morning, I'd sure love some advice. I'm thinking that sensor should most definitely have been reinstalled.

Thoughts? Thanks.
